Our intent is to use the MVC social network as a decision-making tool.
Anyone who has registered with Media Venture Collective, signed up for the newsletter, donated, or responded to an email invitation specific to them gets a unique URL, and accrues credits for any donations or new participants that come through it.
If and when the fund gets to sufficient size, those credits will map to votes for recommending how to allocate it.
The concept is this: the influence of each participant, aka their "mojo", is a function of their "networked-ness" and the generosity of their friends, relative to the total mojo in the system. It is a function of the total donations within two degrees of you. Anyone who comes to us through a user's unique URL is one degree from them (more linkage options soon).
Think of it as "tinkertoy social sculpture" for collective decision-making, where:
-
Each user is a hub whose size is determined by their donation.
-
Links to others are one-directional spokes, from one to another they respect. Spokes are known only by the hubs they connect.
-
Each hub earns decision-making influence determined by its size, the size and number of hubs linking to it, and the size and number of hubs linking to them.
Voila! A meritocratic generosity network.
If you've registered or donated, and have forgotten your ID, you can get it mailed to you here.
As soon as there's enough here to govern, we'll start using it.
